- 3. Installing the 2.1 update
- =============================================================================
-
- To install the 2.1 update, run the installer update script which will
- update the PhotoFolio executable and install updated libraries. You will
- need your original PhotoFolio CD to install the update.
-
- The language catalogs are not ready yet, but we have decided to release the
- free 2.1 update now so that you can benefit from the new features. The new
- features of PhotoFolio will appear in english until the translators have
- finished translating the locale catalogs. Locale catalogs will appear on
- the web site when they are available. (Also notification on the mailing
- list.)
-
- Your current PhotoFolio program settings will continue to work.
-
- You will need to reregister PhotoFolio 2.1 (locally, not on the Internet)
- when running it for the first time.
-
-
- 4. Whats new
- =============================================================================
-
- Update 2 fixes some install script problems.
-
- We have chosen to add some of the features previously planned for V3.0 into
- the free V2.1 update.
-
- A few of the new facilities include rename, folder support in the listtree,
- more drag and drop support, and PowerPC support for some libraries. There
- have been a lot of low level 'under the hood' changes making the code
- faster and more reliable (hence the size of the patch).
-
- Although this document is long we ask that you take the time to read
- it to see what exactly has changed.
-
- Currently there is no official documentation for the 2.1 update, but it is
- being worked on and will be made available on the web site when it is
- completed.
-
- Most new features do not require complex instructional procedures.
-
- Below you will find a comprehensive list of added features.
-
-
- General - features
- ==================
- * Now, only one PhotoFolio can be running at any time.
- * Project icons are saved along with saved projects (depending on
- settings).
- * Added Shell parameter PROJ or PROJECT to load a project at runtime.
- Works concurrently with shell paths (you can use both and they are
- merged).
- * Added workbench icon loading of projects, however only one of a
- multiselected icon project group is loaded at this stage.
- * If you double click a project with PhotoFolio already running, it
- will talk to the running PhotoFolio and load the project, similarly
- with the shell paths if launched from a Shell.
- * If you run a PhotoFolio and then try to run another one, the original
- one will become uniconified (if it is) and brought to the front. If you
- pass in either chell paths or a project it will also start processing
- those.
- * Now any time the current project is about to be modified in a major
- way if it hasnt been saved, the user is given the choice to save
- first, ignore or cancel.
- * When quitting, you are asked to save the project first, differently,
- depending on if confirm quit is enabled/disabled.
- * Added Project menu item 'Information' which maintains information
- about the project.
- * A one character minimum is now required for registration name and
- country entries, previously set at 5 characters.
-
-
- Settings window - features
- ==========================
- * Added show subtaskpriority. Setting this value too high will prevent
- the display from updating.
- * Added a user selectable proof font. This font is used for the text
- underneath a proof. You can choose any font and size. Every browse
- window can have different proof settings.
- * Added other settings:
- * Copy file comment to proof - If enabled, when creating
- proofs, the image files comment is copied to the proofs
- comment.
- * Auto gamma correct on make - If enabled, corrects the gamma
- on proof creation. This will make the creation slower.
- * Save icon with project - If enabled, icons are saved with
- project files.
- * 'Add paths as tree or flat' now indicates that the paths added to the
- main window should be added in tree or flat mode, not whether the
- list is displayed as tree ot flat.
- * The 'abbreviated paths' setting is now obsolete.
-
-
- Browse window - features
- ========================
- * The sort mode is now also selectable by a small pop up gadget next
- to the sort status line.
- * Save image as now supports all save formats provided by
- imageio.library (still currently only JPEG).
- * Added a progress indicator and the ability to abort the following
- operations. The windows also open a reasonable width as default.
- * Gamma correction
- * Saving proofs
- * Deleting proofs
- * Moving proofs
- * Copying proofs
- * Added rename a single proof/image in the browse window. The two
- rename modes work differently to each other. If you rename a
- single proof, the text below the proof is removed and replaced with
- a string, ok and cancel gadgets. You can leave the proof in rename
- mode and scroll the browse window, show images etc before actually
- renaming the proof/image. You can also have as many proofs as you like
- in rename mode simultaneously.
- * Added rename selected proofs via a requester. This opens a requester
- where you can rename all the selected proofs. This is a different way
- to rename from the rename single proof, but achieveing the same end
- result. The browse window is unable to used while this requester is
- open.
- * Closing a browse window closes all attached windows (e.g.
- information windows). Only Information windows are attached to browse
- windows. If you need an information window to stay open after the
- browse window is closed, remember to deatch it first (see Information
- window below).
- * Added NONE to the sort methods.
- * Added 'Refresh' to browse menu to reload the current path into the
- browse window.
- * Dragging and dropping a proof that is already created also copies
- the original proofs file comment and datestamp to the new proof.
- * When loading a browse window, the files are sorted before loading,
- so even if paused the display is correct.
- * Every browse window can have a different setting for the font to be
- used for text displayed beneath the proof. See settings window.
-
-
- Make window - features
- ======================
- * Added new make settings:
- * Copy file comment to proof - If enabled, the image files
- comment is copied to the proofs comment.
- * Auto gamma correct on make - If enabled, corrects the gamma
- on creation. This will make the creation slower.
-
-
- Copy - features
- ===============
- * When copying a file, the date stamp and file comment of the source
- file are copied to the destination file.
- * Copy checks if the destination is write protected and if so asks
- the user to retry or cancel.
- * You can answer 'No to all' for overwriting of files.
-
-
- Move window - features
- ======================
- * When moving a file, the date stamp and file comment of the source file
- are copied to the destination file.
- * Moving images does not bother updating the browse window until
- finished and also sleeps the browse window while moving.
- * Move checks if the destination is write protected and if so asks the
- user to retry, cancel or copy instead.
-
-
- Main window - features
- ======================
- * The listtree menu has 'Show Path' which shows all the files in the
- path in a show window in sequence.
- * The listtree menu has a folders section. You can add, delete and
- rename folders. Folders can contain other folders. You can drag
- and drop any path or folder to any path or folder. Double clicking a
- listtree folder adds the path to the folder that is clicked on.
- Folders and paths can be renamed. So if you add a path and dont
- like the name of the path, you can renmae it.
- * Listtree context menus now display the entry name clicked on as the
- title in the context menu so you know which entry you clicked on.
- * Added 'Make path' and 'Make all paths' to the main window menu.
- * Added open information window to the main menu.
- * If a project file is dropped onto the listtree, it is loaded.
- * Folders are created automatically for default operations. E.g.
- 'Add one path', "Workbench icons' etc.
-
-
- Attribute window - features
- ===========================
- * Now has a progress indicator.
-
-
- Information window - features
- =============================
- * There can now be multiple information windows open.
- * Information windows are 'associated' with browse windows. That is, the
- information window 'belongs' to the browse window that opened it. If
- a browse window is closed, all associated information windows are also
- closed. You can 'detach' an information window from the detach menu
- item in the information window.
- * The information window has 'Detach from parent window' in its menu to
- unassociate the window with its parent window (whoever opened it).
- * Dropping a proof on an information window associates that information
- window with the browse window the proof is in.
- * Workbench icons can be dropped onto the information window, including
- files, directories and devices. If the dropped file is an image or a
- proof, its information will be extracted and displayed. Otherwise only
- relevant fields of the information window are enabled.
-
-
- Show window - features
- ======================
- * 'Save image as' now supports all save formats provided by
- imageio.library (still currently only JPEG).
- * Dropping workbench icons onto the show window now attempts to load
- all dropped files.
- * Added 'Information...' menu item to the show window context menu to
- open an information window about the currently visible image.
- * The loading subtask priority can be set from settings. Tweaking this
- may or may not improve the performance of loading on your machine.
- If you use progressive loading, having it set too high will result
- in the image not showing until loading is completed (because the
- loading task has a higher priority than the viewing task).
-
-
- ARexx - features
- ================
- * The settings item ABBREVIATEDPATHS is obsolete.
- * The settings item LISTTREEMODE now controls the way paths are added
- to the listtree.
- * Added NONE to the sort arexx command.
- * Added new release 2.1 settings to arexx.
- * SHOWTASKPRI
- * PROOFFONT
- * PROOFFONTSIZE
- * COPYFILECOMMENTTOPROOF
- * SAVEICONWITHPROJECT
- * AUTOCORRECTGAMMA
- * Added command NEWPROJECT.
- * Added commands GETPROJECTATTRS, SETPROJECTATTRS
- * FILENAME (this is a get only parameters)
- * OWNER
- * SUBJECT
- * DESCRIPTION
- * COMMENTS
- * REVISION
- * SAVED (this is a get only parameter)
-
